Adelaide will have a 2011 Soundwave Festival and the parklands fees are 100% resolved. For the record the fees were ridiculously low at $3,000 (that’s 15 cents per ticket) and are now at a rate in line with other cities – a figure the event organisers accept as fair. Soundwave Festival promoter A.J. Maddah issued the following statement:
“The AAC have displayed sagacity and equity in the handling of this matter and management of the consultation process has been A1. We are pleased to continue to conduct the festival in Adelaide and to contribute to events' calendar in Adelaide.”
I received abuse on line regarding Soundwave simply because I am a Councillor. It was really frustrating as I never supported dramatic increases in Parkland fees and have worked hard to find a solution – I was on the side of Soundwave fans!
I'm 39 and work hard represent the views of the next generation but received stick because I was accessible via Facebook and Twitter – oh the irony.
It is my hope younger people understand that councils play a pivotal role in their quality of life and they get more involved – voting is not compulsory and young people almost never vote despite the fact they are the most active users of our city. It only takes 10 minutes too!
In November I have the chance to be the youngest Lord Mayor in Adelaide City Council history – whilst it’s not about age, I do hope that people under 40 that have never voted before are inspired to participate for the first time - I am giving them an option, lets hope they take it!
If you want to help me create history for Adelaide’s Future please get involved and drop me a line…
